CU took two team titles, highlighted by a record-low 23 points for the men’s team. Rudy Kahsar lead the University of Colorado Triathlon Team to victory at the 2011 USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship by winning the mens overall title. Despite 2-minute position foul penalties assessed against three members of the Colorado team, Kahsar (1st in 1:57:04 and no penalty), Chris Braden (4th in 1:59:20), Ryan Bice (5th in 1:59:23) and David Bobka (13th in 2:02:30) topped the runner-up West Point tri squad by 48 points and third place UC Berkeley by 76 points. The previous point record for a mens team was 38; set by Wyoming.

Colorado, whose women’s team took 3rd, won the combined men’s and women’s team title with a total of 83 points. The US Military Academy took 2nd with 71 points and UC Berkeley was 3rd with 233 points.

In an interview with USA Triathlon, Kahsar stated, “I’ve been training for this race for four years … Every year I’m thinking about Collegiate Nationals, and I put so much into it this year,” said Kahsar. “This is the most emotional race I’ve ever done. It’s the hardest I’ve ever gone. I’ve never gone this hard in a race.”
